Where did the Jews go after 1492? The History of Turkish Jewry

Join CLC for a very special guest who will reveal to us the 500 year history of Turkish Jewry since the expulsion from Spain in 1492.

Rabbi Haleva was born in Istanbul and graduated from The Jewish High School before going to Hebrew University in Jerusalem for a one-year programme.

He graduated from Yeshiva University, New York with a BA in Sociology and then studied for his Ordination Theology Rabbi Diploma and his M.A. Diploma.

After nine years in the US as an Assistant Rabbi and educator, serving on various spiritual councils, he returned to Turkey.

He currently works as a member of the spiritual council of The Turkish Rabbinate, teaches Religious Studies at The Ulus Jewish Schools, is a Rabbi at the Ortakoy ets ahayim Synagogue, has published research on Torah, Talmud and Jewish Theology and also prepared a book on the Ethics of Judaism.

The son of the Chief Rabbi of Turkey, he is married with three children – and Rebbetzen Haleva’s family have lived in Turkey for over 500 years!
