CLC: Simon Goulden’s Guide to the National Portrait Gallery (Ep.1)

25th August 2020 @ 10:45 am - 12:00 pm

Episode One: From Glorious Revolutionary to Bob’s Your Uncle

Opened in 1856, the National Portrait Gallery is the oldest art gallery of its kind in the world.

Ahead of its planned closure for the Inspiring People redevelopment, it was a victim of the Covid museum lockdown and will remain closed until spring 2023.

But if we could go inside its shuttered doors we would be amazed at the number of portraits of important and famous people we could see with interest and relevance to the Jewish community.

Join Simon Goulden for a two week virtual tour of the National Portrait Gallery and hear the stories behind the faces.

Simon Goulden is an exceptional educator. He has given many courses and tours for the London School of Jewish Studies and written and edited books and articles on Judaism, Jewish history and Israel including the green Sacks Siddur.

He got us off to a superb start when CLC went OnLine with his popular talks on Israeli street names and this visit to the National Portrait Gallery gives us a welcome opportunity to enjoy a bit more of  Simon’s unique presentation style!
