Since 2004, Cockfosters Learning Centre has provided ‘The Best in Jewish Learning on Your Doorstep’ with a wide range of talks, interviews, films, courses, discussions and outings appealing to an audience of varying levels of observance and interest including those who might not be so comfortable in the shul environment, the only criterion being that it should bring to the table something valuable to us as Jews.
Each CLC series runs for 3-6 weeks three times a year, usually on a Monday night. For each evening, you get two wonderful speakers AND a light bagel supper at 7.30pm as well as refreshments between the sessions. Session 1 starts at 8.00pm. Session 2 starts at 9.15pm.
CLC offers a variety of presenters – both local experts and nationally and internationally known speakers. Regulars may remember the Chief Rabbi, Deborah Lipstadt (Denial), the editor of the Jewish News or a whole season of MBEs and OBEs!
Details of the CLC programme of can be found on the Events Calendar.
Book by the Thursday before and only pay £10.00 for the whole evening. If you just come on the night, it’s still only £12.00 for a great evening including food. But book ahead to be sure of your bagels!
Book on-line at https://myus.theus.org.uk/events. Under ‘Search by Community’, select ‘Cockfosters & N Southgate’.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, CLC has moved on-line using Zoom, with a new format of a one hour talk or presentation followed by Q & A and a new time slot, 11.00 on Tuesday morning.
There is no charge for the session but participants are asked to make a donation of whatever they can manage towards CLC’s future, on the United Synagogue booking page.
CLC OnLine events that have already taken place can be enjoyed again on YouTube. Look for the links sent out from the synagogue office or email CLCatCNSS@gmail.com for the full playlist.
