CLC: Licorcia of Winchester

14th June 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The rise and fall of a remarkable Jewish business woman, with William Carver.

In response to many requests, we are delighted to be present William Carver from The Licoricia of Winchester Charitable Trust to tell us about Winchester’s medieval Jewish community, its role in society and its royal connections together with the compelling tale of Licoricia of Winchester, whose statue has recently been unveiled by the Chief Rabbi and almost by Prince Charles…

Licoricia is the story of one woman in the thirteenth century living not only within her Jewish community, but alongside her Christian neighbours in the old capital of Winchester. Her life and that of her family reflect the experiences of the Jews of medieval England during the century that ended with their expulsion to the continent, and with it the story of Jewry in this country, until their return in the seventeenth century.

William is active in interfaith work in Winchester and was very involved in Winchester’s Mitzvah Day. He trained as a chartered accountant and holds an MBA from London Business School and has held various positions in finance, banking and strategy, latterly running his own business, Carvercare and Mobility, a retail and online business serving the elderly and disabled.
